Cool WRAPUP - NERDFEST - First Frag

Well, the first EVER NERDFEST event has come and gone. It seems like a fun time was had by all throughout the event with attendance topping out at about 16 games (including 1 mac owner) with the 4 admin's.

Setup for admin's started early at 10 (with NO-ONE being on time) and by 12pm our first gamer arrived. Conrad's to Steven (thomst08) to being the most eager and the furthest traveler.

A great thanks to Kenny from LANX in Ballarat who came down and helped us set up all the gear, all in all there was close to 500m of network cable run through this event. We had a lovely Netgear 48-port gigabit switch supporting this mess of cables which sounded like a fleet of black hawks while running.

Cables more cables switch

The attendance was admirable for the first LAN with computers ranging from brand spanking new, to laptops and then to others which didn't quite fit in their casing (*cough* Fiachna *cough*) and all the way up to a small house (*cough* GERMano *cough*).

As per any LAN there was reformatting (Jamie) and a few BSOD's. No major virus issues with those who were suspected/confirmed to having nastiest quickly taken care by the admin team and cleaned up.

reformat

The venue was really good with plenty of space and some good facilities for use. With the extra space it did allow us to run now one, but 2 big TV's with consoles. They seemed to go down a treat for the people's who were sick of getting owned or owning Fiachna.

Gaming was plenty full with some good competitions happening. The final game list ended up being:

Unreal Tournament 2004, Call of Duty 4, HL2: Gary's Mod, GTA: San Andreas multiplayer, failed CS comp (because it SUCKs). We also had some console based competition and a time trial on the playground. I can't really remember who won but it was funny as hell. Expect the UT2004 results to be put up on the site a bit later.

Pizza run went well with a total of 16 pizza's being ordered on the night. they got the pizza's right but the drinks all ended up being coke, which isn't normally that bad.

Big thanks to all the admin guys for helping run the event and sorting out all the issues that came up. Also thanks to everyone who bought consoles for everyone to play on. Also thanks to all the sponsors to help with prizes. Special thanks to Nick (Hydro) for all the help with setting up and packing up and also for the loan of the 40" LCD.

Biggest thanks to all the gamers who attended this event
